Downloadable Audiobooks and eBooks have Arrived!

(Central Pennsylvania – Jan 19, 2011) – Listen up! The Central Pennsylvania Library District now offers free downloadable audiobooks and eBooks. Library Patrons in Centre, Mifflin, Juniata, and Clearfield counties can access a diverse and growing collection of fiction and non-fiction titles. To view the collection, visit digitallibrary.centralpalibraries.org where listings of the newest and most popular downloaded audiobooks and eBooks are available.

Getting started is easy; download the free OverDrive Media Console software at the website. Using a valid library card from any of the Central Pennsylvania District Libraries, customers can listen on their computer, transfer to supported portable devices, such as MP3 players, and burn some titles to CD.

Central PA library customers can find thrillers, romance, teen and non-fiction titles. Look for best-sellers like Heartsick by Chelsea Cain or Eric Clapton’s autobiography Clapton. Want to learn a new language? Check out the extensive collection of foreign language instruction audiobooks. Other authors in the collection include James Patterson, John Grisham, Patricia Cornwell, Geraldine Brooks and many more.

With rising gas prices, customers won’t need to drive to the library, they can access the collection from any PC at any time. At the end of the loan period, the audiobooks automatically expire and return to the collection. There are no late fees or damage costs. The service & software are free and available 24/7.

The Central Pennsylvania Library District now also offers downloadable eBooks to Library Patrons in Centre, Mifflin, Juniata and Clearfield counties.

We currently offer over 700 downloadable eBooks in our library, and you have the ability to download them from the comfort of your own living room.  Simply follow the link to the Central PA Downloadable Media page to get started.

In order to download and view eBooks on your computer, you will need to download the free Adobe Digital Editions software.  This is the software you will use to read your downloaded eBook.

There are many devices compatible with OverDrive.  To check to see if your device is supported, check out OverDrive’s Device Resource Center.

To download eBooks to an Android or iPhone, follow this link, select your device and follow the instructions.

In addition to the books you are able to check out from our library, there are over 15,000 books in the public domain that don’t count against your library checkout limit and never expire, available for download here.

With the ever expanding digital market, we want to continue to provide the best of today’s new technology to our patrons.

As with the audiobooks, eBooks are available for a 14 day period, after which they will automatically expire, which means no late fees for you!
