Centre County Reads 2012: The Book Thief

Announcing the 2012 Centre County Reads selection: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. This award-winning book has captured the hearts and imaginations of people around the world. We hope you'll read it and discuss it with your Centre County neighbors. Centre County Reads has many exciting events planned for this year including an Indoor Sports Day at the YMCA, a Grim Reaper Writing Contest, and a Skype appearance by author Markus Zusak! Breakfast Serial starts today!

The new Breakfast Serial, sponsored by Centre County Reads, starts today in the Centre Daily Times. The story will be published in the weekend editions on Saturday and Sunday. Orphan Journey Home by Liza Ketchum is a story of four pioneer children who, against all odds, make their way alone back to their home in Kentucky. These are great stories for reading aloud and discussing.

Family Writing Contest Winners Announced

Congratulations to the winners of the Center for American Literary Studies' (CALS) Family Writing Contest! As part of the 2011 Centre County Reads program, featuring Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls, Centre County residents and Penn State students were invited to submit work on a family related theme.
